This Policy Brief brings together key insights and reflections from participants of the workshop “Climate Evidence for Loss & Damage in the Context of Wildfires in the Amazon and Pantanal biomes”, held in Brasilia from September 8 to 10, 2025.
The document highlights how climate change has intensified the frequency and severity of wildfires, turning them into systemic crises that cause significant losses and damages. It calls for the explicit inclusion of wildfire impacts within the global Loss & Damage (L&D) agenda and emphasizes the importance of direct, flexible, and community-led funding to strengthen prevention, recovery, and resilience efforts led by community and volunteer brigades.
